Pilanesberg, South Africa
We were blessed to spend a wonderful long weekend in the beautiful Pilanesberg (I mean, just look at these photos!)  this weekend and while packing I was focussed on packing only products that were absolutely essential and ones that could be used in a few different ways. I limited myself to 10 make-up products and through in a few skin-/haircare essentials that every weekend bag should include.

I knew I had to take my foundation (L’oreal’s True Match) and a good primer (I’m currently testing Bourjois Happy Light Matte Serum Primer) as well as a concealer (another Bourjois product I’m testing). I took my Revlon Bronzer and Sigma blush along to add some colour back into my face and because I wanted something nude and easy for lips, I took my Clarins Instant light lip perfector. As far as eye products go, I wanted something that would be quick to apply while still delivering a good amount of colour. I took Rimmel’s Scandaleyes Shadow Paint in Rich Russet and Stila’s smudge crayon in Umber (look out for the mini review of that coming soon). I also added a new Bourjois mascara (another one I’m testing) and my Revlon liquid eye pen. I didn’t bother taking something along for my eyebrows because a good brush through is all they need when I’m doing a more natural face. I did take along my 5 essential make-up brushes , of course.

Weekend away essentials

With regards to skin and hair care, I of course took along my cleansers, serums and moisturisers but added another 3 products that I found to be absolutely essential. I think these are important no matter where you go but especially in the bush (where we went) where the sun is hot, dust is a plenty and the air is dry, these three goodies were life savers. I took my new Vichy Capital Soleil SPF (50+) which I have been loving (another review, coming soon), Tresemme’s translucent dry shampoo and my Uriage thermal water mini. First of all, an SPF is always an esssential so there’s no need to go on about that and I feel pretty similar about dry shampoo. I can’t even think of going away for a weekend without having dry shampoo with me. Because I only wash my hair once or twice a week, dry shampoo is in my kit permanently anyway but having it in my travel bag I didn’t even need to take shampoo and conditioner with which saved me space as well. The thermal water came in handy on game drives (safari’s) where the dust, sun and wind made my skin feel particularly parched and tight. A quick spritz livened everything back up and at first, all my family members were laughing at me but they soon asked if they could have some. It was a lifesaver.

And that’s all my weekend away essentials? What do you pack when you go away for a long weekend? Are there any products you simply can’t bare to be away without? For more photos of our trip, hop on over to my Instagram account. So much beauty to be found in our glorious Africa.
